The Department of English of Govt. Girls College, sprouted its roots in the year 1970, since then it has been catering to teaching English Language (Foundation course) and  Generic Elective (Communicative English) from 2021, at UG level to all students across Streams.

        The Department has introduced a distinctive and  innovative style of teaching The focus is on teaching Core Components i.e. Grammar, Comprehension, Vocabulary / Composition and English Text.

                 Besides, the traditional Chalk and talk method, interactive classes by applying Group Discussion, Question & Answer, Quiz, demonstration method are arranged to encourage and motivate the Students and help them to acquire knowledge, skill and self-confidence. However, the learners are always made aware of the wide scope for their future.

                     The Literary Club formed by the Dept. hosts several interdisciplinary events and exposes students to a wide range of creative areas — which help to develop critical thinking and professional opportunities.

The Geographical location of Vidisha District, too, provides opportunity for the students to build their future by working as Tourist Guide and Interpreters for the visitors to the adjacent Sanchi, Uday giri caves and Other nearby places of historic importance.
