The Department of sociology in Govt. Girls College  was established in 1972, with a view to start courses at UG level and at PG level in 1984. The self finance MSW program was started date in the department from 2008.

The subject aims to equip students with the basic and applied principles of sociology, which is a scientific study of society.It further aim to develop in understanding of sociological behaviour among the students and to train them for the betterment of society.The department activity support and enlist the student for their all round development.

 The examination result of this department is almost 100% and from time to time students have been holding positions in the merit list of the university.The department has become well known among the Academia and even in the general public due to the outstanding work of the teachers.Who have been serving in the department all through the years. Dr. Ojeshwani johari is heading the department with Dr. Sandhya Jain as Associate Professor and Ku. Shakun ahirwar Assistant Professor through Jan bhagidari. Dr. johari is a research guide with five research scholars presently pursuing their work under her .
